Suck On These…

Bacon candies!

What did you think I meant?  REALLY?!? That’s what you thought? Get your mind out of the gutter.

Anywho, the fine folks at Archie McPhee have done it again.  There is nothing they won’t make taste like bacon!

From their site:

These red and white striped hard candies look just like the ones that grandma used to put in her fancy candy dish for the holidays. But, my oh my, would grandma be in for a surprise if she popped one in her mouth!

Oh my indeed.

$5.95 for a tin with about 12 pieces of candy.

Better with Bacon – REAL Bacon Salt!

I can not believe it has taken me over two years before finding a recipe for this…

While I commend the find folks at J&D’s for their invention of “Bacon Salt” the fact remains that there is NO actual bacon in their products.  If I’m going to eat something called bacon salt, I’d really like bacon in it.

So let’s make some REAL bacon salt…

Bacon Salt

Ingredients:

6 slices of bacon 1/2 cup coarse sea salt 3/4 teaspoon ground peppercorn

Directions:

Preheat an oven to 350 degrees. Lay your bacon out in single strips over a cookie rack and put that in a baking tray. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the bacon is crisp and starting to blacken(It should look overcooked rather than how you’d normally eat bacon). Once the bacon has cooled, use a paper towel to press out any excess oil. Transfer the bacon to a food processor and process until there are only small chunks and a paste begins to form. Add in the sea salt and ground pepper (note: whole peppercorns will not break up in the food processor) and continue to process until the salt breaks up into smaller pieces and mixes with the bacon. Transfer to an airtight jar and keep in the refrigerator when not using.

Behold the MEATINI…

So some inspiring young lads across the pond had an idea…

How can we get an entire English breakfast into a martini glass made of bacon?

The answer…behold the MEATINI

See how they came up with this mad creation at http://www.rathergood.com/meatini, if you DARE!!!  Bwahahahahahahahahahaha!

Thanks to Rebecca F., TDB’s Bacon and Cultural Studies Correspondent for the heads up (SHOUT OUT).

That is all.  Happy Monday everyone.

Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz…Some Bacon for your Water?

Over the last three weeks I have received an abundance of bacon related news.  Thank you to ALL of you for your submissions.

This week and next, I’m lookin’ to catch up by lettin’ the world (or in the case of this blog – my 10′s of readers) share in all this bacon glory fillin’ my mailbox.

First – from our friends at Archie McPhee

Why not pork up your water with these effervescent bacon drink tabs? When I first saw this a few weeks ago I knew it would be going on the holiday list for Santa but…after my experience with the bacon soda I just don’t know if I can “swallow” this (literally and figuratively).  Novelty be damned. If you are feelin’ the need, they’re only $3.50 over at mcphee.com. While you are there, pick yourself up some giant underwear ;-)

Wakey, Wakey…

who wants bakey?

This is a oldie but a goody but as this blog is new and the 10′s of my readers may have never seen this..I give you the Bacon Alarm Clock aka “Wake n’ Bacon

wake-bacon-open

It’s your standard, everyday digital alarm clock THAT MAKES BACON!!

Frozen bacon goes in the night before and begins to cook 10 minutes before your alarm goes off. So the gentle aroma of bacon helps great your day.  When the alarm does go off, just reach over and pull out the tray to reveal a tasty strip or two. Is there a better way to start a morning? (yes, there are some, but this is a family blog…so removing all of those…this is the best way to wake up!).

Bacon Tea?!?

Yes, bacon flavored tea…this one is scaring me a little and I am not one who is easily scared…

bacontea1

So I was this close to picking this up until I read this:

Ingredients: Tea, immitation bacon bits, natural flavors.

Hmmmm.

First, immitation (sic) bacon bits?  No thank you.

Second, natural flavors? I’m guessing that is only maple essence.  The only natural flavoring from bacon comes from bacon fat and I really don’t think they steeped the leaves in pig grease…

So yeah for the idea, boo for execution.

Not buying this, but feel free if you feel so inclined.  If you do, tell me about it…

Ooh, that Smell…Can’t you Smell that Smell?

We’ve run across many an interesting thing here at TDB and we’ve featured some innovated and somewhat “questionable” bacon products.  Along the way I have continued to defend my fellow bacon nerds…well my friends, it’s getting harder and harder to keep doing that when we have something like this:

Yes, that is bacon cologne.  I’m sorry, make that Bac?n (ED NOTE: for some reason, that line over the “o” just won’t show up). And if that wasn’t enough, it comes in TWO scents…Bac?n Classic and Bac?n Gold.  What’s the difference?  From their website:

Bac?n Classic is carefully crafted with bergamot, orange, lime, grapefruit, black pepper, cedar wood, vetiver & guaiacwood a dash of savory, 2 pinches’ of salty goodness and the secret formula. Bac?n Gold is carefully crafted with mandarin, bergamot, grapefruit, lemon, nutmeg, pimento berry & black pepper a touch of sweet, a smidgen of savory, a pinch of salty goodness and the secret formula.

I’ll give them credit, their site is fun.  Head on over to read more and see their commercial.  If so inclined, you may also pick up the scent of your choice for just $36.00.

Thanks to FoodBeast and FOTBD Woody (SHOUT OUT) for the heads up.
