Better with Bacon – Happy Birthday Julia…

Julia Child would have been 100 years old today!

I grew up with Julia on “Good Morning America” and while watching my DVR’ed episode of “The Chew” this evening (yes, I “zoom” through it every night after “PTI“) I was reintroduced to one of her most favorite recipes – Boeuf Bourguignon!

So here’s to you Julia! Who knows where televised food shows would be today without your pioneering spirit and love for food!

Boeuf Bourguignon

Ingredients

6 ounces bacon
1 tablespoon olive oil
3 pounds lean stewing beef (cut into 2-inch cubes)
1 teaspoon Salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons flour
1 carrot (sliced)
1 onion (sliced)
3 cups full-bodied young red wine (like Chianti)
2-3 cups brown beef stock or canned beef bouillon
1 tablespoon tomato paste
2 cloves mashed garlic
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1 crumbled bay leaf
18-24 small white onions (brown-braised in stock)
1 pound quartered fresh mushrooms (sauteed in butter)
parley sprigs

Directions:

Head on over to “The Chew” website for the step by step!

Bacon Shortage? What Bacon Shortage?

Some good news from the USDA last week…

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported last week that through the end of October, frozen pork supplies were down 4 percent from the previous month but up 24 percent from last year. Stocks of pork bellies were up 22 percent from last month and up 119 percent from last year.

So this holiday…make mine bacon!

Thanks to CTBites for the bacon pron.

Bacon Pic of the Day – Crispy Couture…

That’s my kinda dress!

There are so many things I thought about writing, but they all turned out to be bad puns that could be easily interrupted as dirty. Sooooo…as this is a family show we’ll just leave it at well done young lady, well done.

Bringin’ Up a Bacon Baby – Monster & Robot…

Flippin’ around On Demand tonight, trying to find a show for Lil’ Baird.  Pop open the Nickelodeon menu and at the bottom I see “Monster & Robot“.  I’ve never heard of this show before, but anything’s better than another helping of Dora, right?

Here was the first scene…

Turns out that Monster and Robot are best friends who hang out at the Makin’ Bacon restaurant and consume vast amounts of our favorite strips of swine.

I’m in.

Head over to Nick.com to check out the videos or find it On Demand.

Get Your Bacon Java at Seattle’s Best…

Last week, a lovely woman from Iowa by the name of Eileen Gannon won a contest sponsored by Seattle’s Best Coffee with a drink she named “How to Win a Guy in One Sip”.  For her efforts, she pocketed a cool $10K.  Ka-Pow!

Her submission was a pumpkin pie spiced and bacon flavored cup of awesomeness!  Sounds good, right?  Well, if you have a “participating” Seattle’s Best Coffee near you, you’ll get a change to try it. Can’t wait, you can get her recipe over on Seattle’s Best Coffee’s facespace page (you’ll need to like it, just a heads up).

Well play Eileen, well played!
